Unemployment drops to 5.2pc PDF Print E-mail

AUSTRALIA'S unemployment fell to 5.2 per cent in December, official figures show.

Total employment fell 293,000 to 11,421,300 in the month, according to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Roughly 24,500 full time jobs were added to the economy but part time employment fell 53,700 in December.

The forecast was for total employment to have risen by 5,000 in December with the unemployment rate at 5.3 per cent, according to the median of 13 economists surveyed by AAP.
